As news headlines flash up alarming information and images of melting ice caps and meteorological doom, with the stark warning that the Earth’s population is to blame, the work of Matthew Dalziel and Louise Scullion becomes exponentially more compulsive. Since deciding to collaborate in 1993, the artists’ work has become increasingly concerned with encouraging the public to look anew at our habitat, questioning what significance our estrangement from nature will have on our future survival…..Some Distance From The Sun sees them dig deep into the botanical studies of the evolution of plants. The film, with a soundtrack by Mark Vernon, will attempt to observe the major steps that have taken place as plants evolved out of water to land. The Scotsman
